St Thomas More College, New Canopy

IN CONJUNCTION WITH ARCHITECTS TRCB, HOSKINS WERE ENGAGED TO UNDERTAKE THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW CANOPY WITHIN THE MAIN COURTYARD OF ST THOMAS MORE COLLEGE, CRAWLEY.

The project involved the engagement with a steel fabrication specialist based on the east coast, where the structure was prefabricated and shipped to site.

With the time on site being condensed, the Hoskins team undertook the demolition of existing concrete planters on the suspended deck of the courtyard, formed new concrete columns within the under-croft carpark, and erected the huge steel frames of the new canopy.

The finished canopy now provides more than 700m2 of weather protection for the students, enabling the use of the courtyard year round. Specialist lighting systems were installed that enabled the LED lighting system to be programmed to reflect custom settings depending on the theme of a particular event being hosted.
