We reconfigured the façade of this iconic venue in the heart of Leederville’s Entertainment District and revitalised the space by removing the windows and installing bi-fold doors. This allowed more light to enter the internal bar space which is restricted in terms of natural light, and create a greater connection with the street space.
As the venue is of heritage interest, particular care had to be taken to throughout the works. By cutting out sections of the façade to install the doors, parts of the existing Rococo tile needed to be replaced. Identical tiles were not available due to age and partly due to their lead component, but we were able to source handmade tiles from Italy in keeping with the original tile.
The bar remained operational each day, and as a result, a detailed programme was put together to ensure that the venue was clean, safe and secure upon the completion of the works each day to ensure no disruption for the public.
